Description

Dough:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 to 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, honey, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the Dough: Stir in melted butter, egg, and salt. Add the whole wheat flour and mix until combined. Gradually add all-purpose flour, ½ cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead and Rise: Knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape and Bake: Divide dough, shape into balls, and place in a baking dish. Let rise again, then bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes.
  5. Finish: Brush with melted butter after baking, if desired.
