  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs

For the white German chocolate cake:

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large egg whites

For the coconut pecan frosting:

  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Make the cheesecake layer: In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, then stir in vanilla. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 35–40 minutes until set. Let cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  2. Make the cake: Prepare the white cake mix according to package instructions using the water, oil, and egg whites. Divide the batter evenly between two 9-inch round cake pans and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes. Let cool completely.
  3. Make the coconut pecan frosting: In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolk, and butter. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 8–10 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans. Let cool to room temperature.
  4. Assemble: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Carefully unmold and place the cheesecake layer on top. Add the second cake layer over the cheesecake. Spread the coconut pecan frosting on top. Chill for 30 minutes before slicing to set the layers.
