Instructions
- Preheat: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) or preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for cooking the tofu nuggets.
- Prepare Wet Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the plant-based milk, cornstarch, and Dijon mustard until the mixture is smooth and uniform. This will act as the binding agent for the tofu coating.
- Prepare Dry Mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, nutritional yeast (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the spices.
- Coat Tofu Cubes: Dip each tofu cube into the wet mixture, ensuring it is fully coated, then immediately roll it in the breadcrumb mixture to coat evenly on all sides.
- Arrange for Cooking: Place the coated tofu nuggets on a parchment-lined baking sheet if baking, or arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are spaced apart to allow for even cooking and crisping.
- Oil the Nuggets: Lightly spray or drizzle the tofu nuggets with olive oil to promote a crispy texture during cooking.
- Cook the Nuggets: For baking, bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping the nuggets halfway through to ensure even browning on all sides. For air frying, cook for 12–15 minutes until the nuggets are golden and crispy, shaking the basket or turning the nuggets halfway through.
