Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Sauce Mixture
- 1 bottle (18 oz) Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Chicken: Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker in an even layer to ensure they cook uniformly.
- Mix Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Coat Chicken: Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the chicken breasts, making sure each piece is fully coated in the sauce for maximum flavor.
- Slow Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6–7 hours or on high for 3–4 hours. The chicken should be tender and easily shredded when done.
- Shred Chicken: Using two forks, shred the chicken directly in the crockpot and stir well so the shredded meat absorbs the sauce.
- Serve: Serve the shredded BBQ chicken hot on buns, over rice, in wraps, or alongside your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sear the chicken breasts in a hot skillet before placing in the slow cooker.
- Add a dash of hot sauce or red chili flakes for some heat if desired.
- Leftovers keep well and can be frozen in airtight containers or freezer bags for up to 2 months.
- Check BBQ sauce label for gluten-free certification if needed.
