Ingredients
Scale
Pie Crust
- 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts), softened
Filling
- 1 1/2 cups apple pie filling, chopped
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Frying & Finishing
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water
- Optional: cinnamon sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- Prepare Cheesecake Filling: In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Set aside for later use.
- Roll and Cut Pie Crusts: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the softened pie crusts. Using a large biscuit cutter or a bowl about 4 inches in diameter, cut out circular shapes from the crusts.
- Fill the Pies: Place about 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling and 1 tablespoon of chopped apple pie filling in the center of each cut-out circle.
- Seal the Pies: Fold each circle over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal. Prepare an egg wash by mixing one egg with one tablespoon of water, and brush it on the edges to strengthen the seal if needed.
- Heat Oil & Fry: In a deep skillet, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the pies in batches, cooking them for 2–3 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Coat: Remove the fried pies and drain them on paper towels to eliminate excess oil. If desired, while still warm, toss the pies in cinnamon sugar to add extra flavor and sweetness.
- Serve: Serve the stuffed fried apple pies warm or cooled. For an extra indulgent touch, optionally drizzle with caramel sauce or dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature is maintained at 350°F to achieve a crispy texture without excess oil absorption.
- Chopping the apple pie filling helps the pies seal better and cook evenly.
- The egg wash helps prevent filling leakage during frying.
- Use caution while frying to avoid overcrowding the pan which can lower oil temperature.
- For variation, try adding nuts like chopped pecans to the fillings.
