Description
Strawberry Shortcake Kabobs are a delightful and fun twist on the classic dessert, combining moist white cake cubes with fresh strawberries, all drizzled with creamy vanilla candy coating. Perfect for parties or a light, sweet treat, these kabobs are easy to assemble and visually appealing.
Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 (15.25-ounce) box white cake mix, plus ingredients as listed on the box
Fruit
- 48 fresh strawberries, rinsed and hulled
Coating
- 5 cubes vanilla candy coating (white chocolate or vanilla-flavored candy melts)
Others
- 16 wooden skewers
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake: Begin by making the white cake as directed on the box. For best results, bake it in a larger pan (11×16 inches) to achieve thinner cake layers that are easier to cut into cubes.
- Cut Cake into Cubes: Once the cake has fully baked and cooled, cut it into approximately 1½-inch squares to ensure uniform size for skewering.
- Hull the Strawberries: Rinse the strawberries under cold water. To hull, insert a paring knife at a slight angle around the base of each strawberry’s green stem and gently cut out the hull and a small portion of the core without removing too much fruit.
- Assemble the Kabobs: Take 16 wooden skewers and alternate threading 3 strawberries and 2 cake cubes onto each one, starting and ending with strawberries. Place the assembled kabobs on parchment paper to prepare for coating.
- Melt the Candy Coating: Place several cubes of the vanilla candy coating in a small pan over low heat. Stir constantly to ensure the coating melts evenly without burning.
- Drizzle the Coating: Using a spoon or fork, drizzle the melted vanilla coating over the assembled kabobs, adding a lovely touch of sweetness and sheen.
- Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the kabobs for about 30 minutes to allow the coating to set. Serve chilled and enjoy this easy and delightful dessert!
Notes
- Use parchment paper or a silicone mat when assembling to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- The kabobs can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days for freshness.
- For added flavor, consider adding a light dusting of powdered sugar or a side of whipped cream when serving.
- If vanilla candy coating is unavailable, white chocolate chips can be melted with a little vegetable oil as a substitute.
- Be careful when melting the candy coating to avoid overheating, which can cause it to seize or burn.
