Description

A delicious twist on classic fries, Sloppy Joe Fries combine crispy baked French fries topped with a savory ground beef sloppy joe mixture and melted cheddar cheese, perfect for game day or a hearty snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Fries

  • 1 bag (26 ounces) frozen French fries

Sloppy Joe Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Toppings

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bake the Fries: Preheat your oven and bake the frozen French fries according to the package instructions until they are golden and crispy.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: While the fries bake, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion, cooking for about 6 to 8 minutes until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add Garlic and Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Then add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer the Mixture: Lower the heat and simmer the sloppy joe mixture for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  5. Assemble the Fries: Once the fries are cooked, spread them evenly on a large serving platter or a baking sheet. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the fries.
  6. Add Cheese and Melt: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top and return the assembled fries to the oven for 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with chopped green onions if desired, and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • For extra indulgence, add a drizzle of sour cream or ranch dressing on top.
  • Try using sweet potato fries or waffle fries for a fun and tasty variation.
