Ingredients
Scale
Noodles
- 8 ounces udon noodles
Protein
- 1/2 pound flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1/2 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
Vegetables
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 3 green onions, chopped
Sauce & Flavorings
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Cook noodles: Cook the udon noodles according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain them thoroughly and set aside to prevent sticking.
- Heat oil: In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering, preparing it for searing proteins and vegetables.
- Cook steak: Add the thinly sliced flank steak to the hot skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until nicely browned on the outside but still tender. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside to keep warm.
- Cook shrimp: In the same skillet, add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove them and set aside with the steak.
- Sauté vegetables: Add the broccoli florets and thinly sliced red bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender-crisp but still vibrant.
- Add aromatics: Stir in the chopped green onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant and well combined with the vegetables.
- Make sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, and honey until smooth and well blended.
- Combine proteins and sauce: Return the cooked steak and shrimp to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over everything and stir well to coat all ingredients evenly.
- Toss noodles: Add the cooked udon noodles to the skillet. Toss and stir everything together until the noodles are thoroughly coated in the sauce and heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top if desired. Serve the shrimp teriyaki steak noodles immediately while hot.
Notes
- For more flavor, marinate the flank steak in a little soy sauce and garlic beforehand.
- Use fresh ginger and garlic for the best aromatic experience.
- Feel free to swap udon noodles with other thick noodles like soba or lo mein if unavailable.
- To keep vegetables crisp, avoid overcooking during the sauté step.
- Sesame seeds add a nice crunch but are optional based on preference.
- This dish can be made gluten-free by using tamari or gluten-free soy sauce and gluten-free teriyaki sauce.
