Description

Shrimp Oreganata is a classic Italian-American baked seafood dish featuring large shrimp topped with a flavorful mixture of garlic, seasoned breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and herbs. It is baked until the shrimp is perfectly cooked and the topping is golden and crisp, offering a deliciously savory meal that pairs wonderfully with pasta, rice, or crusty bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp

  • 1 ½ pounds large shrimp (peeled and deveined, tails on)

Topping

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ¾ cup seasoned Italian breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Additional

  • juice of 1 lemon
  • lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking dish to prevent the shrimp from sticking.
  2. Arrange Shrimp: Place the peeled and deveined shrimp in a single layer inside the baking dish, slightly overlapping if necessary to fit.
  3. Sauté Garlic: In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil and sauté the minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Mix Topping: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the seasoned breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper until the mixture is evenly moistened with the garlic-infused olive oil.
  5. Top Shrimp: Evenly spoon the breadcrumb mixture over the shrimp, pressing gently to help it stick to the shrimp.
  6. Add Lemon Juice and Bake: Drizzle the shrimp and topping with the fresh lemon juice and an optional little extra olive oil, then bake for 10–12 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and opaque and the breadcrumb topping turns golden brown.
  7. Serve: Serve the shrimp immediately with lemon wedges and extra parsley if desired, perfect alongside pasta, rice, or crusty bread.

Notes

  • This dish pairs beautifully with pasta, rice, or crusty bread to soak up the delicious lemon-garlic juices.
  • For a spicy twist, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture before baking.
  • Be careful not to overcook the shrimp to ensure they remain tender and juicy.
