Ingredients
Scale
Bread & Butter
- 2 thick slices of brioche bread (about 1 1/2 inches thick)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Honey Mixture
- 3 tablespoons honey (plus extra for drizzling)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Toppings
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 banana, sliced
- 1/4 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/4 cup whipped cream
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s at the right temperature for toasting the brioche bread evenly and achieving a crispy, golden finish.
- Butter the Bread: Spread the softened unsalted butter evenly on both sides of each thick brioche slice to enhance flavor and promote even browning during toasting.
- Toast the Bread: Place the buttered bread slices on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 10 minutes. Flip them halfway through to ensure both sides are golden brown and crispy.
- Prepare Honey Mixture: While the bread toasts, combine the honey and ground cinnamon (if using) in a small bowl, mixing well to infuse the honey with warm spice notes.
- Drizzle Honey: Remove the toasted bread from the oven and immediately drizzle the honey-cinnamon mixture over the warm slices to let the flavors soak in.
- Create Ice Cream Pocket: Using a sharp knife, carefully slice a 2-inch deep square into the center of each bread slice without cutting through the bottom. Gently hollow out the interior to create space for the ice cream filling.
- Fill with Ice Cream: Spoon or stack the vanilla ice cream scoops into the hollowed center, piling high to create an impressive presentation.
- Add Fresh Fruit: Arrange the sliced banana and strawberries both on top of and around the ice cream, adding color, texture, and fresh sweetness.
- Top with Whipped Cream: Dollop the whipped cream over the assembled toast, then lightly dust with powdered sugar for an elegant finish.
- Garnish and Final Drizzle: Garnish with fresh mint leaves and drizzle a little extra honey over the top for added shine and sweetness.
- Serve Immediately: Serve the Shibuya Honey Toast right away to enjoy the contrast of warm, crispy bread and cold, melting ice cream.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use high-quality unsalted butter and pure honey.
- Adjust the amount of cinnamon or omit it based on preference.
- Use fresh, ripe fruits like banana and strawberries for best taste and texture.
- Serve immediately to prevent the bread from becoming soggy.
- Instead of vanilla ice cream, other complementary flavors like matcha or caramel can be used for variation.
