Description

Puerto Rican Chocolate Coquito is a rich and creamy holiday drink that combines traditional coquito ingredients with a delicious chocolate twist. This festive beverage blends evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, coconut milk, and cocoa powder with spiced rum, cinnamon, and vanilla for a smooth, indulgent treat perfect for Christmas celebrations or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Liquids & Milks

  • 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (15-ounce) can cream of coconut
  • 1 (13.5-ounce) can coconut milk
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups white or spiced rum (to taste)

Flavorings & Spices

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional

  • 2 ounces melted dark chocolate (for extra richness)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a blender, add the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, coconut milk, cocoa powder, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend the mixture until it becomes smooth and creamy.
  2. Add Chocolate (Optional): If using melted dark chocolate, pour it into the blender at this stage and blend again until the chocolate is fully incorporated into the mixture.
  3. Incorporate Rum: Pour in the white or spiced rum to taste and blend briefly just to combine the ingredients evenly.
  4. Chill: Transfer the blended coquito mixture into glass bottles or jars. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the drink to chill thoroughly.
  5. Serve: Before serving, shake the bottle well to mix any settled ingredients. Pour into small glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or shaved chocolate if desired. Serve cold.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of rum according to your preference or omit it for a non-alcoholic version.
  • Coquito thickens as it chills; if it becomes too thick, add a splash of milk or rum to achieve desired consistency before serving.
  • Store refrigerated and consume within 1 week for best freshness.
