Description

These Monte Cristo Sliders are a delightful twist on the classic sandwich, featuring layers of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese nestled inside soft Hawaiian rolls. Serve them with raspberry or strawberry jam for a delicious dipping option, making them an ideal choice for parties or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices deli-sliced ham
  • 12 slices deli-sliced turkey
  • 12 slices deli-sliced Swiss cheese

Wash

  • 1/3 cup (76 g) salted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Finishing

  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • Raspberry or strawberry jam, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Spray a 9×13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Rolls: Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves into the prepared baking pan.
  3. Assembly: Place half of the Swiss cheese slices over the bottom rolls. Next, layer all the ham slices, then all the turkey slices, and finally the remaining Swiss cheese slices. Top with the upper halves of the rolls.
  4. Make and Apply Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and pepper. Using a pastry brush, evenly coat the tops of the rolls with this mixture.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is thoroughly melted and the tops are toasted golden brown. If the buns brown too quickly, tent with foil to prevent burning.
  6. Finishing Touch: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar. Optionally, serve with raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure to coat the rolls evenly with the butter and egg wash to achieve a golden and shiny crust.
  • Tent with foil if the sliders brown too quickly to avoid burning.
  • The jam adds a lovely sweetness that complements the savory flavors—feel free to experiment with different fruit preserves.
  • These sliders can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving for convenience.
  • Use Hawaiian rolls for their sweet, soft texture which contrasts beautifully with the savory fillings.
