Description

This Low Carb Crustless Pizza Bowl is a delicious and easy-to-make alternative to traditional pizza, perfect for those following a low-carb or keto-friendly diet. Featuring layers of cooked Italian sausage or ground beef, marinara sauce, sautéed vegetables, and a blend of melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, this dish delivers all the classic pizza flavors without the crust. Baked until bubbly and golden, it’s a comforting meal that’s quick to prepare and customizable with your favorite pizza toppings.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage or ground beef, cooked and crumbled

Sauce & Seasonings

  • 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce (low sugar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Vegetables

  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup black olives, sliced

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Garnishes (Optional)

  • Red pepper flakes
  • Chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare it for baking the pizza bowl.
  2. Cook the meat. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage or ground beef until it is fully browned. Once cooked, drain any excess fat to keep the dish lean.
  3. Assemble the layers. In a small oven-safe bowl or ramekin, start by spooning in a few spoonfuls of marinara sauce. Add half of the cooked meat on top, then layer half of the sliced mushrooms, chopped green bell pepper, red onion, and black olives. Sprinkle with half of the Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
  4. Add cheese. Top the layered ingredients with half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Repeat the layering. Add the remaining marinara sauce, meat, vegetables, and seasonings, then finish with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  6. Bake the pizza bowl. Place the oven-safe bowl on a baking sheet to catch any spills and bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  7. Let it cool and garnish. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with red pepper flakes and freshly chopped basil if desired to add extra flavor and a fresh touch.

Notes

  • This recipe is highly customizable; try adding classic pizza toppings like pepperoni, jalapeños, spinach, or feta cheese.
  • For enhanced flavor, sauté the mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion briefly before layering.
  • This dish works well for meal prep and can be reheated easily without losing flavor or texture.
