Ingredients
Scale
Caramelized Onions
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 large yellow onions, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Dip Base
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (optional)
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the finely chopped onions, salt, sugar, and black pepper. Cook slowly, stirring frequently for 25 to 30 minutes until the onions are deeply golden and caramelized. Add a splash of water if the onions start to dry out. Remove from heat and allow the onions to cool completely.
- Prepare the dip base: In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix together until smooth.
- Combine onions and dip: Stir the cooled caramelized onions into the sour cream mixture, blending well to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
- Chill and serve: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld. Before serving, stir the dip and sprinkle with chopped fresh chives if desired.
