Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Marinade
- 1 pound sirloin or ribeye steak, cut into bite-sized cubes
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
Vegetables and Rice
- 1 zucchini, halved and sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 onion, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
- Optional: sesame seeds for garnish
Cooking Fats
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Yum Yum Sauce (optional but recommended)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1–2 teaspoons sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons water (to thin)
Instructions
- Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, combine steak cubes with soy sauce, sesame oil, and minced garlic. Toss well to coat all pieces evenly. Let marinate for 15–30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Cook the Steak: Heat a large skillet or hibachi-style griddle over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil. Once hot, add the marinated steak pieces and sear for 2–3 minutes per side until browned and cooked to your preferred doneness.
- Add Butter and Remove Steak: Add butter to the pan and toss steak in the melted butter for added flavor. Remove the steak from the skillet and keep warm.
- Stir-Fry Vegetables: In the same skillet, add zucchini, mushrooms, and onion. Stir-fry the vegetables for about 4–5 minutes until they become tender-crisp. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Prepare Yum Yum Sauce (Optional): In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, rice vinegar, garlic powder, paprika, sugar, and enough water to achieve desired sauce consistency.
- Assemble Bowls: Divide cooked white rice into serving bowls. Top with seared steak and stir-fried vegetables. Drizzle yum yum sauce on top, then garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute steak with chicken, shrimp, or tofu for variation.
- For a lower-carb option, replace white rice with cauliflower rice.
- Yum yum sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
