Ingredients
Scale
Beef Patties
- 2 large beef patties (preferably 80% lean ground beef)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Cheese
- 2 slices of American cheese, cheddar cheese, or your favorite cheese
Buns and Toppings (Optional)
- 2 hamburger buns
- 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting the buns)
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- Pickles or onions for topping
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: Season both sides of your beef patties evenly with salt and pepper. Shape the patties if needed, ensuring they are slightly larger than your bun size as they will shrink while cooking.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the hot surface and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, adjusting the time if you prefer different doneness levels, until they are browned and cooked through.
- Melt the Cheese: When the patties are almost done, place a slice of cheese on each patty. Cover the skillet with a lid for 1 to 2 minutes to help the cheese melt evenly and thoroughly.
- Toast the Buns (Optional): Butter the inside of each hamburger bun lightly. Place the buns face-down in the skillet over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Assemble the Burger: Start by placing one cheesy beef patty on the bottom bun. Stack the second cheesy patty on top and then cover with the top bun.
- Add Optional Toppings: Spread mayonnaise and/or ketchup inside the buns if desired. Add pickles, onions, or any other preferred toppings to finish the burger.
- Serve: Slice the assembled Flying Dutchman Burger in half for easier handling. Serve it alongside fries or a crisp side salad and enjoy your hearty meal.
Notes
- The recipe can be served without buns for a low-carb or bunless option.
- Use your preferred cheese type to customize flavor.
- Adjust cooking times depending on how you like your burger doneness.
- Optional toppings can be modified or omitted completely based on taste preferences.
- Butter is used for toasting the buns to add richness and crispiness but can be skipped for a lighter option.
