Description

Fig and Goat Cheese Pinwheels are delightful Mediterranean-inspired appetizers featuring flaky puff pastry filled with sweet fig jam, creamy goat cheese, and optional crunchy nuts and fragrant rosemary. Perfect for holiday gatherings or elegant snacks, these pinwheels bake to golden perfection with a crisp, buttery texture and a flavorful filling.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry and Filling

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1/2 cup fig jam or preserves
  • 4 oz goat cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary (finely chopped, optional)

For Finishing

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly flour a clean surface for rolling the puff pastry.
  2. Roll Pastry: Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet and gently roll it out into a 10×12-inch rectangle to even out thickness and size.
  3. Spread Fig Jam: Evenly spread the fig jam across the pastry surface, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges to prevent overflow during baking.
  4. Add Goat Cheese and Toppings: Crumble the softened goat cheese evenly over the fig jam. If using, sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans and finely chopped rosemary for added flavor and texture.
  5. Roll into Log: Starting from one long edge, carefully and tightly roll the pastry into a log shape. Pinch the seam to seal it and place the log seam-side down on your work surface.
  6. Slice Pinwheels: Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1/2-inch thick slices to form individual pinwheels. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart to allow for expansion.
  7. Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops of each pinwheel gently with the beaten egg to promote a golden, shiny finish when baked.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed up and beautifully golden brown.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the pinwheels to cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature, making them perfect for parties or gatherings.

Notes

  • Ideal for holiday appetizers or elegant snack occasions.
