Description

These Easy One Hour Cinnamon Rolls are soft, fluffy, and ooey gooey with a rich cinnamon-sugar filling and a creamy cream cheese glaze. Perfect for a quick homemade treat, they come together with minimal rise time but maximum flavor, making them ideal for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Filling

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Glaze

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth and fully incorporated. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rest for 10 minutes to relax gluten and make it easier to roll out.
  3. Make the filling: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon thoroughly until well combined and spreadable.
  4. Roll and fill the dough: Roll the rested dough into a 12 by 15-inch rectangle on a floured surface. Evenly spread the cinnamon-brown sugar filling over the dough, making sure to cover the entire surface.
  5. Shape the rolls: Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 even rolls using a sharp knife or dental floss.
  6. Proof the rolls: Place the cut rolls into a greased baking dish. Cover loosely with a towel or plastic wrap and let them rise for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake the rolls: Bake the cinnamon rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown and are cooked through.
  8. Prepare the glaze: While the rolls bake, combine the softened cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 2-3 tablespoons of milk in a bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  9. Glaze and serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Drizzle the cream cheese glaze generously over the warm rolls and enjoy the ooey gooey goodness.

Notes

  • Use warm milk around 110°F to activate the yeast without killing it.
  • Do not over knead; the dough should be elastic but still soft.
  • For softer rolls, you can cover them with a clean kitchen towel during rising to prevent drying.
  • If you want even richer rolls, brush the rolls with melted butter immediately after baking before glazing.
  • Adjust milk quantity in glaze to achieve your preferred consistency—thicker or more drizzle-like.
  • These rolls are best eaten fresh but can be stored covered at room temperature for up to 2 days and reheated gently.
