Description

Crispy Breaded Mushrooms are a deliciously crunchy appetizer or snack featuring tender button or cremini mushrooms coated in a seasoned breadcrumb mixture and fried to golden perfection. Perfectly seasoned with garlic, onion powder, and paprika, these mushrooms are ideal for dipping in ranch, garlic aioli, or spicy mayo for a satisfying bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms

  • 1 pound whole button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed

Breading Station

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2 inches deep)

Instructions

  1. Prepare breading station: Set up three shallow bowls. Place the flour in the first bowl. In the second, whisk together eggs and milk until combined. In the third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Bread the mushrooms: Dredge each mushroom first in the flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the egg mixture completely, then coat fully with the seasoned breadcrumb mixture. Place each breaded mushroom on a tray, ready for frying.
  3. Heat oil and fry mushrooms: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C), about 2 inches deep. Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, fry the mushrooms for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve: Serve the crispy fried mushrooms hot with your favorite dipping sauces such as ranch, garlic aioli, or spicy mayo for the best flavor experience.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can bake the breaded mushrooms at 400°F (200°C) for 18–20 minutes or air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
  • Best enjoyed fresh and hot for maximum crunch and flavor.
