Description

This creamy herb and onion dip combines the richness of cream cheese and sour cream with fragrant herbs and savory onion soup mix, making it a perfect chilled appetizer or party snack. Easy to prepare and bursting with flavor, it’s ideal for serving with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Dip Base

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups sour cream (light sour cream can be used)

Seasonings and Herbs

  • 1 packet (about 1 ounce) dry onion soup mix
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (or 1 teaspoon dried chives)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Garnish

  • Chopped green onions or additional fresh herbs

Instructions

  1. Mix the cream cheese and sour cream: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy with no lumps.
  2. Add dry ingredients and herbs: Stir in the dry onion soup mix, chopped fresh parsley, chopped fresh chives, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute all the seasonings.
  3. Refrigerate to meld flavors: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to develop and the dip to thicken.
  4. Stir and garnish before serving: Give the dip a good stir to recombine ingredients. Add chopped green onions or extra fresh herbs as garnish if desired. Serve chilled with your favorite chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use light sour cream and reduced-fat cream cheese.
  • Make the dip at least an hour ahead for best flavor; it can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to taste after chilling.
  • Try adding a splash of lemon juice for extra brightness.
  • This dip is vegetarian but not vegan due to dairy ingredients.
