Description

This Creamy Cheesy Potato Marble recipe features tender baby marble potatoes baked in a rich, luscious blend of sharp cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses infused with garlic and cream. The potatoes are boiled then lightly smashed for maximum sauce absorption, creating a golden, bubbly cheesy side dish perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 2 pounds baby marble potatoes (red and yellow mix)

Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt (divided: ½ tsp for sauce, ½ tsp for boiling water)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Toppings and Garnish

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the finished dish.
  2. Boil Potatoes: Wash the marble potatoes thoroughly. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the potatoes, and cook for 10–12 minutes or until they are just fork-tender. Drain and allow them to cool slightly.
  3. Make Cheese Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in heavy cream, ½ teaspoon salt, black pepper, and paprika if using. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then gradually add the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, stirring continuously until the sauce is smooth and melted.
  4. Prepare Potatoes for Baking: Lightly smash each potato with the back of a spoon just enough to crack the skins without fully mashing them. Transfer the potatoes evenly into a greased baking dish.
  5. Assemble and Bake: Pour the warm cheese sauce evenly over the smashed potatoes. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15–20 minutes or until the cheese sauce is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy warm as a comforting and cheesy side dish.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add cooked bacon bits or caramelized onions before baking.
  • Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream for a lighter sauce option.
  • To ensure even cooking, use potatoes of similar size or cut larger ones in half.
  • Parmesan adds a crispy, flavorful crust—don’t skip it!
