Ingredients
Scale
For the dough:
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- ½ teaspoon salt
For the filling:
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon instant espresso powder or finely ground coffee
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons brewed coffee (cooled)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make Dough: Add the melted butter, egg, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined, then gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare Filling: Mix the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, instant espresso powder, and softened butter into a smooth paste for the filling.
- Roll and Fill: After the dough has risen, roll it out into a 10×16-inch rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough surface.
- Shape Rolls: Roll the dough tightly from the long edge into a log, then cut into 12 equal rolls.
- Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30–40 minutes until puffy.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes or until they are golden brown.
- Make Glaze: While the rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, brewed coffee, and vanilla extract to create a smooth glaze.
- Glaze and Serve: Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving for a sweet, coffee-flavored finish.
Notes
- Use a stronger brewed coffee or espresso in the glaze for a more intense coffee flavor.
- Prepare the rolls the night before and refrigerate after shaping. Bake them the next morning after allowing them to rise at room temperature for 1 hour.
