Description

Cinnamon Swirls are a quick and delightful treat made with flaky puff pastry, a sweet cinnamon-sugar filling, and an optional vanilla glaze. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an anytime snack, these bite-sized rolls offer a satisfying combination of buttery layers and warm cinnamon flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cinnamon Swirls:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Glaze (optional):

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Cinnamon Filling: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until smooth and evenly blended.
  3. Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to prevent sticking and maintain shape. Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the entire surface of the puff pastry.
  4. Form the Swirls: Starting from one edge, tightly roll the puff pastry sheet into a log, making sure it is even and compact to hold the shape during baking.
  5. Slice and Arrange: Cut the rolled puff pastry log into 1-inch thick rounds. Place the rounds flat on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a small gap between each swirl to allow for expansion.
  6. Bake: Bake the cinnamon swirls in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes or until they are golden brown and nicely puffed.
  7. Cool Slightly: Remove from the oven and allow the swirls to cool slightly on the baking sheet to firm up.
  8. Prepare the Glaze (Optional): While the swirls cool, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon swirls just before serving for added sweetness and moisture.

Notes

  • You can add chopped nuts or raisins to the filling for extra texture and flavor.
  • These cinnamon swirls are best served fresh from the oven but can be stored in an airtight container and lightly reheated before serving.
