Description

Delight in these Chocolate Hazelnut Rolls, flaky puff pastry swirled with rich chocolate hazelnut spread and toasted hazelnuts. Perfect as a sweet breakfast treat or an elegant dessert, these rolls combine the buttery crispness of puff pastry with a smooth, nutty chocolate filling. Easy to prepare and bake, they make an irresistible indulgence for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry and Filling

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
  • 1/4 cup chopped toasted hazelnuts

Toppings

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Roll Out Puff Pastry. On a lightly floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet and gently roll it out into a rectangle approximately 10 by 12 inches, creating an even base for the filling.
  3. Spread Chocolate Hazelnut. Evenly spread the chocolate hazelnut spread over the rolled-out pastry, leaving a small border along one of the long edges free of spread to help with sealing later.
  4. Add Toasted Hazelnuts. Sprinkle the chopped toasted hazelnuts evenly over the chocolate spread to add crunch and enhance the hazelnut flavor.
  5. Roll the Pastry Log. Starting from the opposite long side without the border, carefully roll the pastry into a tight log, then brush the exposed border with beaten egg to seal the roll securely.
  6. Slice into Rolls. Cut the log into 8 even slices and arrange them cut side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly for proper expansion during baking.
  7. Apply Egg Wash and Sugar. Lightly brush the tops of each roll with beaten egg wash for a glossy finish and sprinkle granulated sugar on top if desired for added sweetness and crunch.
  8. Bake. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and puffed, indicating the pastry is cooked through.
  9. Cool and Serve. Allow the rolls to cool slightly on a wire rack before dusting with powdered sugar if using. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can prepare the rolls ahead of time by slicing and chilling them in the refrigerator until ready to bake.
  • For an extra rich touch, drizzle melted chocolate over the rolls after baking.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes to restore warmth and crispness.
