Ingredients
Scale
Pastry and Filling
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
- 1/4 cup chopped toasted hazelnuts
Toppings
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Roll Out Puff Pastry. On a lightly floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet and gently roll it out into a rectangle approximately 10 by 12 inches, creating an even base for the filling.
- Spread Chocolate Hazelnut. Evenly spread the chocolate hazelnut spread over the rolled-out pastry, leaving a small border along one of the long edges free of spread to help with sealing later.
- Add Toasted Hazelnuts. Sprinkle the chopped toasted hazelnuts evenly over the chocolate spread to add crunch and enhance the hazelnut flavor.
- Roll the Pastry Log. Starting from the opposite long side without the border, carefully roll the pastry into a tight log, then brush the exposed border with beaten egg to seal the roll securely.
- Slice into Rolls. Cut the log into 8 even slices and arrange them cut side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly for proper expansion during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash and Sugar. Lightly brush the tops of each roll with beaten egg wash for a glossy finish and sprinkle granulated sugar on top if desired for added sweetness and crunch.
- Bake. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and puffed, indicating the pastry is cooked through.
- Cool and Serve. Allow the rolls to cool slightly on a wire rack before dusting with powdered sugar if using. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can prepare the rolls ahead of time by slicing and chilling them in the refrigerator until ready to bake.
- For an extra rich touch, drizzle melted chocolate over the rolls after baking.
- These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes to restore warmth and crispness.
