Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry Layer
- 2 (17.3-oz) packages puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- ½ (24-oz) jar marinara sauce
- 1 (25.5-oz) bag frozen popcorn chicken, thawed
- 1 (8-oz) package fresh mozzarella pearls
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
- Garlic powder, to taste
- Italian seasoning, to taste
Egg Wash
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tbsp water
Garnish
- Fresh basil leaves
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (204ºC) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to package instructions. Once thawed, cut each sheet into 9 equal squares. Place the squares evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
- Add Toppings: Spread a generous layer of marinara sauce over each puff pastry square. Distribute the thawed popcorn chicken pieces evenly on top of the marinara sauce. Add fresh mozzarella pearls on top, then sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese. Season each square with garlic powder and Italian seasoning to enhance the flavor.
- Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the large egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of each puff pastry square with the egg wash, helping the pastry edges to brown beautifully and seal slightly.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the puff pastry turns golden brown and puffed up around the edges.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of freshness and serve warm.
