Description

These Cheeseburger Pockets are a delicious and convenient handheld meal featuring seasoned ground beef, tangy ketchup and mustard, and melted cheddar cheese all wrapped inside flaky pizza dough. Perfect for kid-friendly dinners or quick lunches, they bake to golden perfection and can be customized with add-ins like pickles or sautéed onions.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Dough & Topping

  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated pizza dough or crescent roll dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Cook beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned and crumbly. Drain off any excess grease for a less oily filling.
  3. Season beef: Season the cooked beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir in ketchup and mustard to add tang and flavor, then remove from heat.
  4. Mix in cheese: Allow the beef mixture to cool slightly before folding in the shredded cheddar cheese to prevent melting too early.
  5. Prepare dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out your pizza or crescent roll dough and cut it into 6 to 8 equal rectangles or squares for individual pockets.
  6. Fill pockets: Spoon a generous portion of the beef and cheese filling onto one half of each dough rectangle, leaving space around the edges to seal the pockets.
  7. Seal pockets: Fold the dough over the filling and firmly press the edges with a fork to seal them and prevent leakage during baking.
  8. Apply egg wash and toppings: Place the filled pockets on the baking sheet, brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes until the pockets are puffed up and golden brown.
  10. Serve: Let the cheeseburger pockets cool slightly before serving to avoid burns and allow flavors to meld.

Notes

  • Add pickles or sautéed onions inside the pockets for extra flavor and texture.
  • These pockets reheat well and are freezer-friendly—bake and freeze, then reheat in the oven or air fryer as needed.
