Description

This hearty and flavorful Cabbage and Ground Beef recipe combines tender cabbage with savory ground beef and a blend of aromatic spices for a comforting one-pan meal that’s perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Produce

  • 1 small cabbage, chopped
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

Meat

  • 1 lb ground beef

Canned Goods & Spices

  • 1 can diced tomatoes (15 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon bouillon powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: Place the ground beef in a large pan over medium heat. Break up the beef with a spoon and cook until browned, ensuring there is no pink left and the meat is cooked through.
  2. Sauté Onions and Garlic: Push the browned beef to one side of the pan. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the empty side. Sauté until the onions become soft and translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add Tomatoes and Spices: Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, bouillon powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
  4. Cook the Cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the pan and stir well to combine with the meat and tomato mixture. Cover the pan with a lid and cook until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. If the mixture dries out, add a little water or broth to maintain moisture.
  5. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the dish and adjust the salt as needed. Once the cabbage is tender and all flavors are well blended, serve the dish hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken to reduce fat content.
  • If you prefer a milder dish, reduce or omit the cayenne pepper.
  • Serve with rice or crusty bread for a more filling meal.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
