Description

Delightful Blueberry Cheesecake Swirl Rolls combine a soft, fluffy dough with a creamy cheesecake filling and a sweet blueberry swirl. Perfect for breakfast or dessert, these rolls are baked to golden perfection and topped with a smooth vanilla glaze for an irresistible treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

For the Filling:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup blueberry jam or preserves (or fresh blueberries tossed with 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon cornstarch)

For the Glaze:

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast and Make Dough: In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in the warm milk and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add sugar, egg, melted butter, and salt. Mix to combine. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead by hand or with a dough hook for about 5–6 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
  2. Prepare Filling: While the dough rises, mix the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth to create the cheesecake filling.
  3. Roll Out Dough and Add Filling: Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 12×16-inch rectangle. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough, then dollop or spread the blueberry jam on top. Use a knife or spatula to gently swirl the blueberry and cheesecake layers together without overmixing.
  4. Form Rolls and Second Rise: Roll the dough tightly from the long edge into a log and slice into 12 equal rolls. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
  5. Bake Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden and cooked through. Let cool slightly.
  6. Make Glaze and Serve: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the glaze. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh blueberries instead of jam for a more tart filling, or a mix of both.
  • These rolls are best served warm for optimal flavor and texture.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered at room temperature for 1 day or refrigerated for up to 3 days.
