Description
A delightful twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich featuring a rich double cream brie paired with a sweet and tangy blackberry balsamic jam, enhanced with fresh thyme on toasted sourdough bread. Perfect for a gourmet lunch or an elegant snack.
Ingredients
Scale
Blackberry Balsamic Jam
- 2 cups blackberries
- 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 6 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- Pinch of kosher salt
Grilled Cheese Sandwich
- 300 g double cream brie cheese
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
- 8 slices sourdough bread
- Butter, as needed for frying
Instructions
- Make the Blackberry Balsamic Jam: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the blackberries, balsamic vinegar, sugar, lemon juice, and a pinch of kosher salt. Stir occasionally and simmer gently until the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare the Brie and Bread: Slice the double cream brie into even pieces suitable for the bread size. Chop the fresh thyme finely. Lay out the sourdough bread slices for assembly.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Spread a generous spoonful of the blackberry balsamic jam on one slice of bread per sandwich. On another slice, evenly distribute the sliced brie and sprinkle with chopped thyme. Top with the jam-covered slice to form a sandwich.
- Cook the Grilled Cheese: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of butter. Place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet, buttered side down, and cook until the bread is golden brown and the brie has melted, about 3-4 minutes per side. Add more butter as needed for a crisp, flavorful crust.
- Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool slightly for a minute or two. Slice in half diagonally and serve warm to enjoy the contrast of creamy brie and tangy blackberry jam with aromatic thyme.
Notes
- You can prepare the blackberry balsamic jam in advance and refrigerate for up to a week.
- Use double cream brie for the best melt and creaminess.
- Adjust sugar in the jam to your preferred sweetness.
- For a crunchier crust, use a higher heat but watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Fresh thyme is preferable to dried for more vibrant flavor.
