Ingredients
Scale
Beef Patties
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup crushed saltine crackers or breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Gravy
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
Garnish
- Chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, crushed saltines, 1/2 cup milk, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined to avoid tough patties. Shape the mixture into 4 to 6 oval patties. Place the patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for 15 to 20 minutes to help them firm up.
- Preheat Oven and Brown Patties: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Heat a large skillet over medium heat and lightly brown the patties for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side. This step seals in flavor and texture. After browning, transfer the patties into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Make and Pour Gravy: In a small bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup milk, and dried thyme if using. Stir until thoroughly blended. Pour this creamy mixture evenly over the browned patties in the baking dish to ensure they’re fully covered.
- Bake the Patties: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. After that, remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 to 15 minutes until the gravy is bubbly and the patties are cooked through, ensuring a moist and flavorful experience.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve hot with your choice of mashed potatoes or buttered noodles for a classic, comforting meal.
Notes
- You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken soup or use homemade gravy for a personalized flavor.
- Let the patties rest a few minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Using crushed saltine crackers helps bind the patties while keeping them tender.
- Optional dried thyme adds an herbal note to the gravy but can be omitted if preferred.
