Ingredients
Scale
Apple Fries
- 3 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
- Pinch of salt
Optional Dipping Sauces
- Caramel sauce
- Peanut butter
- Greek yogurt with honey
Instructions
- Wash and Core Apples: Wash apples under cool running water to remove any residues. Use an apple corer or a sharp knife to core each apple, removing the seeds and core completely.
- Slice into Fries: Slice each apple into 1/4-inch thick planks. Stack the planks and then slice into 1/4-inch thick strips to form fries.
- Season Apple Fries: In a bowl, combine the apple fries with olive oil or melted coconut oil, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, optional ground ginger, optional brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Gently toss until all apple fries are evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
- Preheat Air Fryer: If your air fryer model recommends preheating, set it to 375°F (190°C) and preheat for 3-5 minutes.
- Arrange in Air Fryer Basket: Place the apple fries in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding for even crispiness.
- Air Fry the Fries: Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8-12 minutes, turning or flipping the fries halfway through cooking to ensure uniform crisping. Adjust the time slightly depending on your air fryer and apple thickness.
- Check for Doneness: Test an apple fry by inserting a fork or toothpick. It should be tender yet hold its shape. If not fully cooked, continue air frying and check every 1-2 minutes.
- Cool Slightly: Remove the apple fries from the air fryer and transfer them onto a wire rack to cool slightly, which helps maintain crispness.
- Prepare Dipping Sauces: While fries cool, prepare your favorite dipping sauces like caramel sauce, peanut butter, or Greek yogurt topped with honey.
- Serve Warm: Serve the apple fries warm and fresh with dipping sauces for a delightful snack or dessert.
Notes
- Use firm apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji for the best texture.
- Adjust the amount of brown sugar or omit for a less sweet version.
- Be sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to achieve maximum crispiness.
- Optional ground ginger adds extra warmth but can be skipped if unavailable.
- Serve immediately after cooling slightly to enjoy the crisp texture.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container and reheat briefly in the air fryer for best results.
